About the artist
Hai Tran is an award-winning designer and contemporary abstract artist. Working in a variety of media, Tran’s artwork is anchored in the human condition, calligraphy, architecture, his own multi-cultural heritage, his travels, and the beauty of nature. The artist’s abstract vision often explores a teetering point between chaos and order. Engaging in a striking yet at times serene palette, the Austin native creates refined compositions of shapes, brush strokes, and textures which result in thought-provoking renderings of visual stimuli with multiple layers of meaning and emotion.
He studied design, art, photography and marketing at The University of Texas at Austin. Tran was awarded the Mitchell A. Wilder Gold Medal by the Texas Association of Museums for the design work which he was commissioned to do for the Austin Museum of Art and Laguna Gloria Art Museum. Tran’s design work has also been featured in various publications, including the Rhode Island School of Design’s publication ZED.
